As managing director for Edrington Hong Kong, William oversees the Hong Kong, Macau and Australasia markets.
I joined Edrington in January 2004, when it was run as Maxxium, a joint venture. I have spent 15 years in the beer, wine and spirits industry, with companies such as Carlsberg and Foster’s.
Hong Kong is a very competitive and dynamic market, and Edrington’s brands enjoy a very high profile here. That brings many opportunities and new challenges every year. Managing those challenges brings me great job satisfaction.
What makes me stay is the satisfaction I get from my work, and the good people and culture in the Edrington team - locally, regionally and globally.

I have worked in manufacturing and engineering ever since I left university, starting in printing and then steelmaking. I joined Edrington in 1999 as a team leader, responsible for three bottling lines and around 40 operators.
Now I’m the engineering manager for Edrington’s southern sites in Scotland, so that involves providing safe, compliant, state-of-the-art equipment for coopering, whisky operations, and cased goods warehousing and our ten bottling lines – one of which is the fastest whisky bottling line in the world.
It can be quite a juggle, balancing the priorities of the site - which is our corporate head office - and also a busy factory environment. It’s always exciting, though, being a hands-on part of the brand growth, and developing the facilities and equipment to make that happen.
What makes me stay? More than anything else, it’s Edrington’s people that make it an exceptional workplace; there’s a camaraderie and team ethic unlike anywhere I’ve seen, and I also take real pride in being part of such a successful independent Scottish company. And we’ve got exceptional brands that I enjoy tremendously!

Every day looks different in my job! I’m responsible for creating sales and marketing activities that help to build Edrington’s brands in Sweden. This is a market with very strict legislation, and that’s something that I find exciting: it encourages a creative approach which makes my job challenging and fun at the same time.
I joined in 2009 as a trade marketer. Although I always wanted to work in marketing, after my studies I took a job as a sales representative at another company, since my lecturer told me that if I wanted to really learn about the world of marketing, I should learn sales first.
At Edrington, I develop myself and my skills every day. It’s important to me to push myself. Another reason I stay is because I have fun with my colleagues, and I feel that I am part of a team that is working towards the same goals. It inspires me, and makes my workplace a good place to walk to every morning!

I worked in several international companies in China before joining Edrington China in 2011. In my current role I have responsibility for IT infrastructure construction and services delivery in China.
The biggest challenge is for me to understand the whole business. Every day I handle a variety of large and small technical challenges. I am also a part of the project team, and through this work I get the chance to establish connections to colleagues in different parts of the world. We share challenges and new ideas so that we can learn from each other.
My work provides me with a direction to advance my career, and the variety of challenges motives me to higher achievement. When I started with Edrington, I got lots of help from colleagues to help me understand Edrington’s culture and working environment. It feels like I’m part of a big family.

Although training needs and development activities vary across markets, training provision generally includes specific and bespoke training for departments in specialist areas and ongoing refresher training.
In a typical year, ‘on the job’ training in production areas is backed up by more functional specific development activities in areas such as sales, marketing, finance, IT and courses in skill areas such as project management, coaching, leadership development, negotiation skills, influencing and many more.
